The 2nd Ministerial Meeting of China-ASEAN Eastern Growth Area Cooperation Held

The 2nd Ministerial Meeting of China-ASEAN Eastern Growth Area Cooperation was held on November 24 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Assistant Minister of Commerce of China Li Chenggang and Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs of Malaysia Mohd Radzi Md Jidin co-chaired the meeting. Attending were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Brunei Norliah Binti Haji Kula, Chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority of the Philippines Manny Piñol, Senior Adviser to Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of Indonesia Bobby Hamzar Rafinus, and Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Robert Matheus Michael Tene.

The meeting highly praised the positive progress since the successful upgrading of China-ASEAN Eastern Growth Area Cooperation in November 2018. It reviewed and approved The Cooperation Action Plan of China-ASEAN Eastern Growth Area (2020-2025), and held that the Action Plan clarified the goals , principles, key areas of cooperation and early harvest lists, providing guidance for further cooperation.

The meeting pointed out that they will further strengthen the strategic connection between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eastern ASEAN Growth Area Vision 2025, give play to the geological and cultural advantages of China's relevant coastal provinces adjacent to the Eastern Growth Area of ASEAN, deepen cooperation in trade and investment, infrastructure, connectivity, economic cooperation zones and human resources, jointly turn the important consensus of the leaders of China and ASEAN countries into concrete actions and achieve tangible results.

The meeting issued the Joint Statement of the Second Ministerial Meeting of China-ASEAN Eastern Growth Area Cooperation.
