2nd Global Dairy Forum Held in Shanghai

On the morning of November 8, the 2nd Global Dairy Forum was held in Shanghai. Assistant Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang attended the forum and delivered a speech.

Li Chenggang pointed out that China imported 2.757 million tons of dairy products in 2018, up 7.8% year on year, and the value of the imports was US$10.68 billion, up 14.8% year on year. In the ten years from 2009 to 2018, the annual compound growth rate of China's dairy imports was 18.9%, 5.3 percentage points higher than the annual compound growth rate of food imports (13.6%) in the same period. It is a microcosm of Chinese consumers’ demand for consumption upgrading.

With the increasing consumption level of Chinese residents and changes in consumption structure, China's dairy imports have grown rapidly, providing a broad market opportunity for Chinese and foreign dairy companies, Li Chenggang emphasized . Many Chinese dairy companies have effectively integrated resources, markets and brands through “going global” and “bringing in”, laying a solid foundation for Chinese and foreign dairy cooperation.

This forum further promoted the exchanges of the industry and the integration and development of Chinese and foreign dairy enterprises in the new situation. We will unswervingly promote opening up and exchanges, support domestic and foreign dairy industries to cooperate at a larger scale and a higher level, achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, strive to create a legal, international and convenient development environment and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the dairy industry.

The forum is hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce of I/E of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-products[
]. Attending were 400 people from the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the Ministry of Primary Industries of New Zealand, foreign embassies and consulates in China, domestic and foreign dairy industry organizations, producers and traders and exhibitors of the China International Import Expo.
